A drug driver has lost out in his bid to drive a private hire car after he was disqualified from getting behind the wheel.
Police Scotland objected to Yousaf Jan’s application for a private hire driver’s licence after he was caught with cannabis in his vehicle.
Glasgow’s licensing committee heard the applicant had been fined £400 and banned from driving for one year.
An officer said Mr Jan was stopped by police on Great Western Road in January this year and provided a sample of blood for analysis which showed 3.3mcg of cannabis, exceeding the limit of 2mcg.
He was also found to have a “ziplock bag” with 4g of cannabis in his car, councillors were told.
Due to the driving ban, Cllr Sean Ferguson, SNP, who was chairing the committee, said the application was “not valid”.
Police Scotland had argued Mr Jan was “not a fit and proper person to be a holder of a licence”. The officer said the applicant had been stopped due to “irregular licence plates”.
“While speaking to Mr Jan, officers noted a smell of cannabis,” he added, and a search found 4g of cannabis and a “reefer style cigarette”.
The officer said the applicant had pleaded guilty to the charges in June. Mr Jan had also been given three points for speeding in December last year, the committee heard.
A council official said the licensing committee “noted that the application is not competent” due to the driving ban, and Cllr Ferguson told Mr Jan that officials would be “in touch directly with yourself to discuss further”.
