Taxi catches fire in Cambridge city centre
A taxi caught fire in Cambridge city centre on Thursday morning (29 August), forcing the emergency services to close a road.
Firefighters from Cambridge were called at 8.46am to the blaze on St Andrew’s Street.
Aided by police, a section of the road was cordoned off.
The firefighters used hose reels to extinguish the fire, which started accidentally.
A day earlier, fire crews were called to collisions in Cambridge within just over an hour.
Crews from Cambridge were called to Maid’s Causeway at 1.03pm on Wednesday (28 August) after a car crashed into a brick wall.
They helped release one person from the vehicle and made sure it was safe before returning to their station by 3pm. The casualty was left in the care of the ambulance service.
Then at 2.11pm, crews from Cambridge and St Neots were called to Gonville Place, following a collision involving a minibus and a car. A casualty was released from the minibus and left them in the care of the ambulance service.
The crews returned to their stations by 2.45pm.
