HEADLINE: Fresh appeal in Daresbury death crash
BYLINE: Emma Stewart
DATELINE: Runcorn Widnes
POLICE investigating a fatal head-on crash on the Daresbury Expressway have made a desperate renewed appeal for witnesses to come forward. Officers want to talk to the occupants of a dark-coloured or silver car driving immediately in front of a Warrington-bound black Citroen taxi, which collided with a silver Peugeot 306 at 9.33pm on Monday, June 26.
The smash killed Beechwood taxi driver Brian Crummey, 41, instantly, while the other driver, 18-year-old Stephen Roberts from Halewood, died a week later in hospital. The taxi's 48-year-old passenger, a man from Warrington, and the Peugeot's three occupants, an 18-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, have all been released from hospital and quizzed by investigators.
Traffic sergeant Yvonne Williams said the driver of the mystery car could hold vital clues as to what caused the horrific crash. "This is the only person that we are aware of that was in the area at the time of the collision," she said. "We believe they might be a vital, independent witness as to what happened."
Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt Williams or PC Bryn Majid at the traffic specialist investigations unit on 01244-613 830 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555 111.
