Armed police reportedly descended on a road after a taxi driver was assaulted. Merseyside Police received a call just after 5.30am on Friday, August 30 to a report a taxi driver had been assaulted by three men on Linacre Lane in Bootle.

The men also stole money from the taxi cab and ran away from the area. There were no injuries reported, police said. After officers went to the scene, they attended an address in Walton.

At around 6.30am officers were seen on Warbreck Avenue, just off Walton Vale. One eyewitness said they saw armed police at the scene and a "man in handcuffs".

Merseyside Police confirmed five men were arrested on suspicion of threats to kill, racially aggravated public order, affray with a weapon and theft. They are in police custody to be questioned.

If you have any information on this incident contact Merseyside Police's social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with any information, with reference 24000749439.
