Private hire driver 'made threatening remarks' to ex-partner

A private hire driver who made “threatening remarks” to an ex-partner has been handed a severe warning.

Khushal Khan was cautioned by licensing chiefs after Police Scotland objected to his bid for a new three-year licence.

However, the committee agreed to renew Mr Khan’s licence for a restricted period of one year, allowing him to continue working as a private hire driver.

An officer told councillors how the driver had been convicted in September last year after he behaved “in a threatening or abusive manner”.

The committee heard he had “contacted his ex-partner by telephone and uttered abusive and threatening remarks to her”.

He was ordered to carry out 85 hours of unpaid work and was handed a non-harassment order for two years, preventing contact with his ex-partner.

At the hearing, Mr Khan said he had been driving private hire cars “for a long time” and had “never once had any problems with any customer”.

He added he had “an argument with this person because of a relationship problem”. “It was nothing to do with my driving.”

Mr Khan didn’t declare his conviction on his application form.
