Taxi driver found seriously injured in street after being attacked in Colchester

A taxi driver in Colchester has been left with a serious head injury after being attacked today (November 1). It was reported the victim, a man in his 40s, had been found injured in Brinkley Grove Road in Colchester.

The driver has been rushed to hospital after the serious assault which occurred around 1.50am this morning. He is being treated for a fractured skull and bleed on the brain.

Police are now launching an appeal for witnesses to come forward with any information to help their investigation. A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We are investigating an assault which has left a taxi driver with a serious head injury in Colchester.

"It was reported the victim, a man in his 40s, had been found injured in Brinkley Grove Road at around 1.50am today (Saturday November 2). He has been taken to hospital where he is being treated for a fractured skull and bleed on the brain.

“We are looking to identify two men, aged between 20 and 25, slim, and between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 9ins tall. If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us. Please quote the crime reference number 42/166162/24.”

The headline speaks for itself....although, erm... :?

Says the man 'attended' the police station and was then arrested, which sounds a bit odd - makes it sound like he rolled up voluntarily :-o

Maybe he did, but the headline and the slightly odd wording about the other suspect (as highlighted) maybe suggests it's just a bit misleading. It was the weekend, so maybe the comms 'professionals' weren't working, or were working off a Halloween hangover :roll:

Officers investigating an assault in Colchester which has left a taxi driver with a serious head injury have made an arrest.

It was reported the victim, a man in his 40s, had been found injured in Brinkley Grove Road at around 1.50am on Saturday 2 November.

He has been taken to hospital where he is being treated for a fractured skull and bleed on the brain.

A man attended Colchester Police Station on Sunday 3 November and was arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent.

He is currently in custody.

Our enquiries are ongoing and we are continuing to identify a man, aged between 20 and 25, slim, and between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 9ins tall in connection with the incident.

If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

Not unusual for the police to ring up and advise they turn themselves in.

Another arrest, and another one after 'attending' the station, but it's worded slightly differently - makes it sound less like he rolled up voluntarily, and that it just means he was arrested after being pulled in :-o

Maybe that's reading too much into it, though, and it's very possibly meaningless, and both arrests simply along the lines of what Sussex said. Anyway, the rest of this is pretty much rehash, as is the rehash of the rehash on the Essex Live news site:
