"At the moment the majority of limousine drivers have not undergone any sort of criminal record check, while spot checks by our officers have revealed that alcohol is being consumed by passengers under the age of 18."

There you go yet another council that talk out of their A**E, they say that its illegal to carry over 8 no matter what size the limo is unless they have a COIF and that no limo has got one. Well i have news for them i now know of at least 3 that have these COIF's and i personally will be advising these people to sue the A*RSE off this council. Also there is now a newer system in place that ops are using this very day which is so far deemed by vosa to be perfectly legal, i hope this council will be so willing to spout all this CR*P in a court when challenged. Even the NLA (National Limousine Associaton) have had to remove their statements about all over 8's being illegal.
Yes its nice that they are trying to get a grip on limos and im all for that, but why oh why must they spout off about CR*P that they clearly know nothing about    Hope they get their come uppance sooner rather than later

I also object to them stating that the only legal limo is private hire plated limo, this is clearly BOLL*X also, as im fully legal through VOSA, so JD would i be able to sue them on these grounds

As long as they are licensed, by whoever, I don't mind.

But it would be better for all of us if they all got licensed instead of desperately looking for a loop-hole.

From a limo operators perspective surely the best licensing route would be the VOSA one ?

No vehicle age restrictions
No vehicle colour restrictions
No advertising on vehicle restrictions
No driver dress codes
No appearances in front of council kangaroo courts

Yes indeed you have a very valid point here, but to be honest as sussex says, so long as they are licenced then thats all that matters. I operate under a VOSA licence but to be honest i certainly would not go out without a shirt trousers and tie on, although i must admit i have seen some ops go out on a job in jeans and tee shirt which in my view is clearly unacceptable  Also to be honest i think VOSA are trying to call a halt to licencing limos and pushing more for LA's to licence them, but i think that if your already licenced with them they will continue to do so for the time being anyway
