A good news spin from this particular council, although unless the spin is off the scale, the spotchecks don't seem to have uncovered much The blanket breathalsyer tests certainly an oddity, though - looks like they checked all the spotchecked drivers, and all 30 blew zero... Not impressed by the other oddity here, though Taxi inspection operation brings peace of mind to passengers https://www.northlincs.gov.uk/news/taxi ... assengers/ Dozens of inspections have taken place on taxis across North Lincolnshire to ensure vehicles are providing a safe experience for passengers. A joint operation earlier this month saw council licensing officers team up with Humberside Police to conduct more than 30 spot checks of taxi vehicles. Officers checked headlights and brake lights, tyre tread, on-board fire extinguishers and more during the inspections – with police also using a breathalyser test on drivers. All drivers blew a resounding ‘0’ on the breathalyser test, and all vehicles were found to be in a roadworthy condition. The action resulted in three warning letters issued for minor non-compliance. Tyres on three taxis were found to be close to the legal limit, and these vehicles have been booked in for follow-up inspections. Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for community wellbeing (rural), at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “It is our duty to ensure that the public are safe when they travel in licensed taxis in North Lincolnshire and it’s a responsibility we take very seriously. “I hope the fact that all vehicles passed our thorough inspections brings peace of mind to residents. It’s a brilliant outcome and a real testament to the high standards of the drivers and operators who maintain the taxis. “By working together, we can continue to ensure that passengers travel in safety and comfort when they take a taxi.” To find out more about applying for a taxi license and the checks that take place, visit our website. |

That's all sorts of bollocks ![]() I got stopped going into Grimsby once because I was doing 29 in a 30mph limit. The cop warned me that had I been doing 31, I would have got a ticket. Not true, of course, but you get my drift. |

![]() On a related theme, Police Scotland Edinburgh got some abuse for this ^ Ironically, various keyboard warriors probably delivered the message better than was ever intended or expected. |

Not true, of course, but you get my drift. there used to be a speed camera on a hill descending into Geddington, Northants on what was then the A43 (since diverted) . The camera was set at only just above 30mph and I know several people who got a ticket for 32 or 33 MPH followed by an expensive speed awareness course ! |
