Taxi inspection operation brings peace of mind to passengers

Dozens of inspections have taken place on taxis across North Lincolnshire to ensure vehicles are providing a safe experience for passengers.
A joint operation earlier this month saw council licensing officers team up with Humberside Police to conduct more than 30 spot checks of taxi vehicles.
Officers checked headlights and brake lights, tyre tread, on-board fire extinguishers and more during the inspections – with police also using a breathalyser test on drivers.
All drivers blew a resounding ‘0’ on the breathalyser test, and all vehicles were found to be in a roadworthy condition.
The action resulted in three warning letters issued for minor non-compliance.
Tyres on three taxis were found to be close to the legal limit, and these vehicles have been booked in for follow-up inspections.
Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for community wellbeing (rural), at North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“It is our duty to ensure that the public are safe when they travel in licensed taxis in North Lincolnshire and it’s a responsibility we take very seriously.
“I hope the fact that all vehicles passed our thorough inspections brings peace of mind to residents. It’s a brilliant outcome and a real testament to the high standards of the drivers and operators who maintain the taxis.
“By working together, we can continue to ensure that passengers travel in safety and comfort when they take a taxi.”
