They seem to do quite a lot of these here. Not much to see in the grand scheme, but some interesting stuff about the tyres But interesting that the one on the zigzags has to go on a re-education course or take points and a fine. I wonder which one he'll choose? Meanwhile, the one with the illegal tyre simply has to replace it, at least as far as this reads. One driver fined and four others warned following taxi spot checks https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/one-driver-f ... ot-checks/ A taxi driver has been fined and four others warned following a number of taxi spot checks. On a recent enforcement evening, North East Lincolnshire Council’s Licensing Team worked alongside Humberside Police conducting a total of 26 random spot checks. In total, five drivers were fined or warned for a range of issues:
- One Driver was issued a ticket for being parked on zig zags whilst waiting for a customer. They will receive either an offer of an educational course or 3 Penalty points and £100 fine - One Rooflight not working - One Driver to replace tyre as tread depth below minimum - One Driver to replace nearside back tyre as it had a screw in it. Also, to replace one of his front tyres as the tread patterns were different Councillor Ron Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities said: “These are great results from an evening of inspections by Humberside Police and our Licensing Enforcement Team. “Hackney Carriage drivers need to be aware of the rules they need to follow and should do so accordingly.” He added: “It is also important for members of the public to remember they should only use a licensed taxi when getting anywhere. “Keep yourself safe and always make sure you are getting in a licensed and private hire taxi. The public’s safety is always our number one priority, and we want to reiterate how dangerous getting into an unlicensed taxi can be.” |

Not sure if the Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities thinks it's a 'great result' because there's not much to see, or if it's because he thinks they're clamping down, or whatever. Usually it's a bit more obvious which way they're spinning it.And why does he first refer only to HCDs, then uses the t-word generically, then refers only to a 'licensed private hire taxi' And read the clunky second highlighted bit above literally and it sounds like he's saying people should only use PHVs Quote: One Driver to replace nearside back tyre as it had a screw in it. Also, to replace one of his front tyres as the tread patterns were different Think it was mentioned on here a year or two ago, but interesting to note that a nail in a tyre isn't even an MoT failure As for the tread patterns thing, is that the good old radial/crossply stuff? I didn't really think that was a thing these days, and it's years since I've heard it mentioned. Recall back in the day when there were actually peak time TV adverts (during Coronation Street, The Tommy Cooper Show, This is Your Life, or whatever) warning you not to mix crossply and radial tyres on the same axle, wasn't it?

Quote: Meanwhile, the one with the illegal tyre simply has to replace it, at least as far as this reads. and once he has his vehicle will presumably be road legal again |

Not exactly a sweep-up of the iffy members of the trade, but they had to justify the overtime. As for the zig-zag violation, I suspect that's the first time the officer has ever issued one of them. Do wish our trade wasn't always seen as an easy target. |
