And you think you've had a bad shift...
Not clear if she was actually working, but I'd guess not...maybe earlier in the night.
This is all a bit sad in a way, though...and isn't this report in contempt of court anyway?
Taxi driver caught on video stumbling and slurring at Hayle petrol stationhttps://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornw ... g-10042954The taxi driver filmed in the early hours in Cornwall couldn't even blow on the breathalyser. 'She was trying to suck, like a straw.'A taxi driver has been filmed so drunk she could barely stand up when trying to buy tobacco from an all-night garage. The video sent to CornwallLive shows the woman trying to stand as steady as possible on her feet as she attempts to pay at the all-night hatch, moments after crashing into the bollards on the forecourt in Hayle.
In the video, which you can watch above, the cabbie can be seen searching for cash or a card in her handbag and trying to pay for her tobacco. She is unsteady on her feet. As she nearly falls over backwards she grabs hold of the metal hatch and rights herself up.
She then turns towards the witness who is filming the scene and points at her with an unsteady wobbly hand, telling the cashier she doesn't want to hold anyone up. That's when, pointing at the cab that she crashed into the bollards, she says: "I'm the taxi driver. I'm just driving by."
She's then helped by the witness who takes her keys so she can't drive off, then bumps into a bollard saying "there is a big lamppost in the way".
The incident happened at around 2am on Wednesday (March 19) when the taxi driver pulled over into the Shell garage on Carwin Rise, off the A30 at the Loggans Moor roundabout to buy tobacco.
The former police officer who witnessed and filmed the scene and called 999 said the cabbie was in such a state of intoxication that when police officers finally arrived she could not even blow in the breathalyser.
The witness said: "I went to the petrol station to put fuel in my own car and she had already crashed into the bollards and was at the window. I could tell from the second I pulled up that she was wasted.
"She drove into the bollards at the front of the store of the shell garage on Carwins rise in Hayle, she even managed to crack her front bumper with the impact. She was attempting to purchase tobacco at the late-night hatch and was unable to speak without slurring and could barely hold herself upright."
She added: "It was absolutely awful. I haven’t seen a drink driver like that since I was in the police 20 years ago. She was too intoxicated to actually blow on the breathalyser. She was trying to suck, like a straw, even with the police and myself giving her very clear directions.
"Shockingly when I took her to one side and removed her keys from her and told her I wouldn’t let her drive as she might kill someone, she said she was a taxi driver and that meant she could do it regardless. Absolutely disgusting. I ended up spending two and half hours with her and then the police."
Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed attending an incident on March 19 and arresting one female motorist in her early 50s. A spokesman said: "Kristina Burton, 51, of Kernick Way, Hayle, has been charged with failure to provide a specimen for analysis following an alleged incident on March 19 in Hayle. She will appear at Truro Magistrates’ Court on April 3."
