Hampshire taxi driver caught drunk at wheel banned and fined A HAMPSHIRE taxi driver who was caught drunk at the wheel has been banned from the road and slapped with a fine. Robert Lenox, 65, of Boyneswood Close, Medstead, near Alresford, was stopped by police in a silver Kia on the A31 at Four Marks on March 6. A breathalyser test revealed he was seven microgrammes of alcohol per hundred over the legal limit. Lenox pleaded guilty to the offence at Basingstoke Magistrate's Court on March 20 and was handed a 12-month ban as well as a £120 fine. He has the option to reduce the ban by three months should he choose to complete a course. Before his arrest, police had received reports from the public that he had been driving whilst intoxicated. |

A rare piece from the Alton Herald, which I'd read earlier. Hardly worth another short piece on the same case, but interestingly several new or different details here. Including that his taxi licence revoked, and that he's agreed to attend the course And according to this he was 8mgs over the limit, and not the 7mgs stated above. Not that it makes any difference, but can't people subtract a couple of simple figures? Says he'd had a pint-and-a-half of beer with a meal, which is certainly consistent with being just over the limit. But wasn't the orginal story about loads of members of the public calling police because he was so obviously pished? Even if he hadn't consumed alcohol ever is his life sounds a bit odd how he ended up driving so badly? Four Marks taxi driver banned after admitting to A31 drink driving charge https://www.altonherald.com/news/four-m ... rge-777785 A taxi driver from Four Marks found over the limit after a tip-off has told a court he was “very, very stupid”. Robert Lenox was given a 12-month driving ban after failing a breath test on the A31 on March 6 with his taxi licence also being revoked. The 65-year-old of Boyneswood Close gave a reading of 43 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath with 35/100 being the legal limit. There was no passenger in the car. Lenox, defending himself, told Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Thursday, March 20, that he drunk a pint and a half in Wetherspoons with a meal after an airport run. He was ordered to pay £208 in fines and charges and agreed to complete a drink-drive education course. |

Quote: and that he's agreed to attend the course ![]() He has to agree on the day of the court hearing, but more importantly, it's down to the court to offer him the option. If they don't offer it to him, he doesn't get to do it. I think the cost of the course is in the region of £3-400, but if it gets you back driving only having served 75% of the ban, in my view that's money well spent. |
