Stoke-on-Trent taxi firm 'apologises' after girl driven off in cab without mum

https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/news/st ... s-10048657

A taxi firm has apologised after a cabbie 'mistakenly' drove off with a two-year-old child in their car - and the mum left at the roadside. The mum had booked the Magnum Private Hire fare for herself, her baby, and her two-year-old daughter.

But the cabbie left before the mum and the baby had got in the vehicle. Now Burslem-based Magnum Private Hire has issued a statement following the weekend incident.

It says the driver had 'thought everyone was in the car', took the child 'straight' to the agreed destination, and then offered to take the child back it her mum. It adds that its drivers are verified daily through a police database, receive regular safeguarding training, and have GPS tracking on all journeys.

In a social media statement, Magnum Private Hire states: "We understand the concerns about an incident on March 22. We sincerely apologise for the distress caused and remain committed to the safety of all our passengers, especially children."

Magnum Private Hire has also issued a statement to StokeonTrentLive.

It stated: "We are aware of the incident involving one of our self-employed drivers. As this matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, including the police and the local licensing body, we are unable to comment further at this stage. We are fully cooperating with the investigation and take any such incidents extremely seriously. The safety and wellbeing of passengers, especially children, is of utmost importance to us."

I don't know about the rest of you but I always either got out and helped or at the very least watched the children being loaded in !

How on earth can a driver be so switched off as to do that!

Note the usual deflection when it comes to stuff like this - they emphasise that the driver is self-employed to make sure the blame is shifted to the greatest extent possible, effectively.

Anyway, I'd guess there's more to this than meets the eye, and no-doubt it was a traumatic experience for the family, but at least no-one died...

And, apropos of nothing in particular, had a look at the Delta Taxis website the other day. Not often I need to look there, but can't recall ever seeing what's at the top of their homepage at the current time. But, as opposed to the statement above, I'd guess this is more to do with you-know-what :-o
