And sounds like quite a serious assault, particularly as sometimes these things are just posted on Facebook etc.
Anyway, more to the point is maybe that the driver must have known what happened (because it says below that the assault happened after the taxi arrived at the rank) and Selby isn't exactly Birmingham or Manchester in terms of size, so he'll presumably be well aware it's in the news.
But I wonder why he might be reluctant to come forward, perhaps?

The husband required hospital treatment after he was allegedly punched and knocked unconscious.
His wife was reportedly assaulted and suffered hand and arm injuries.
The two suspects left in a taxi.
The injured man was wearing a white t-shirt and a stone Carhartt overshirt, blue jeans and trainers with an orange stripe.
The injured woman was wearing a black knee-length dress with a dark blue denim jacket, and a green handbag and knee-length boots.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and trying to locate the relevant taxi firms for further information.
There is currently no description of the two suspects.
