Don't know what the licensing council here will think of this, and the guy who's made the video is milking it a bit. On the other hand, as he does say later in the video, you could potentially have your vehicle seized or even go to prison for stuff like this... And at least the YouTuber is astute enough not to mention the obvious in any way, shape or form. But you can imagine the state of the comments And some of them, for example, are assuming this is an office run, so the firm should be held accountable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3Z0X-4KD-M |

so the taxi is licensed in Derby but the incident was reported to south derbyshire. He was mentioning reporting to the police but I doubt they would be interested. The bloke was a fool doing it in daylight |

Maybe I just imagined him saying he'd report him directly to the licensing authority (Derby City Council, as opposed to South Derbyshire that he's going to be reporting the fly-tipping to.) But he certainly did specifically mention taking note of the plate number. (I initially got the impression that he was licensed by South Derbyshire, but the plate deffo says Derby City Council.) |

he's done an update video in which he is bragging by how much money you tube paid him and the BBC have offered to pay him but changed their minds he also boasts about getting the PH company to clean up the fly tipping mess and sack the driver. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXEngENumKo Good samaritan I think not |

Yes, it all seems a bit, er, performative, and that he's milking it a bit. But, I mean, he got paid money like that for just that video? I thought he'd get a couple of quid or so, and that you'd need zillions of views to get £700 or however much he got for it

And, indeed, it's all kicking off in the press This is from the Derby Telegraph/Derby Live site, and a similar but shorter article also on the BBC local news site But the usual trick for this kind of operation of making it clear that the driver is self-employed blah, blah, and thus doing their best to distance the brand from the driver and his misdeeds ![]() (The YouTuber takes the opposite view, and says Western doing the right thing by making it clear that the driver's conduct isn't really their direct responsibility. Of course, to a degree he's right, but I tend to view these things through the lens of the employment status thing, which is a whole different ball game...) Western Cars laying it on with a trowel, though, in terms of the comms/PR-style stuff. Looked at their website the other night, and they look like a big player, and certainly got the impression that if they did say anything, it would be the kind of stuff above: https://westerncars-derby.co.uk/ In fact they seem to be part of a bigger group - DG Cars and all that kind of thing, and seem to operate DG and Western brands in Wolverhampton alone
