A man has been left in a serious condition after he was hit by a taxi in Glasgow city centre on Wednesday night. Emergency services were called to Argyle Street at around 9.45pm following reports of a collision involving a taxi and pedestrian. A 55-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where his injuries are described as serious. Officers closed the road near the Four Corners for around three hours as investigations were carried out. The 31-year-old taxi driver is due to be reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.45pm on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 officers attended Argyle Street in Glasgow after a crash involving a taxi and a pedestrian. The road closed near the Four Corners for approximately three hours to allow investigations to take place. A 55-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with what are described as serious injuries. “The 31-year-old driver of the taxi will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection.” https://news.stv.tv/west-central/man-in ... in-glasgow I tend not to work this area - all the roads near central station make me nervous even with the 20mph zone. |

Don't know if it's just me, but is there a proportionately high number of these reported from Glasgow, and indeed from Scotland as a whole? Maybe I just notice the Scottish ones more because, you know...

I suspect a lot of these incidents are down to the pedestrians often being rat-faced. There are times when the driver is 100% at fault, or deemed by those in authority to be at fault. Sadly not always the same thing.

The area around Glasgow Central is a perfect storm - pubs, drunks, people running for trains/buses, deliveroo riders, mix of one/two way streets, double parking, buses everywhere, etc. |
