The driver was slammed for insulting the licensing and regulatory committee's intelligence by claiming he didn't do it.
A Glasgow private hire driver who claimed he didn't speed despite having points on his licence for the offence was slammed for being "ludicrous" at a licensing hearing.
Andrei-George Malasinc repeatedly denied driving too fast on a motorway - even though he had been convicted at court and made to pay a fine.
His baffling refusal to accept responsibility prompted committee chair councillor Alex Wilson to point out that: "The police don't randomly give people penalty points."
Malasinc admitted it was "strange" while repeatedly saying "I know" as he was questioned.
Police Scotland objected to his application to renew his private hire car driver licence at the city's licensing and regulatory committee this morning.
Councillors refused the licence application after hearing of the offence and how Malasinc didn't inform the council about the conviction, which he is obliged to do.
Committee chair councillor Wilson said: "You are giving me cause for concern with your 'I don't know. It wasn't me, I didn't do it. The police gave me penalty points and I don't know why.'"
He added: "Why don't you be honest and say: 'I'm sorry, I have been done for speeding.'"
Councillor Wilson said if he had been unjustly accused of the offence he would have got a lawyer and fought it.
Malasinc replied: "I know, it is my fault."
A Police Scotland representative told the committee earlier in the meeting that Malasinc exceeded the 70pmh speed limit on the M6 in the Cumbria area in January, 2021 and failed to supply identification.
Blasting Malasinc's behaviour during the meeting, councillor Sean Ferguson said: "Please don't insult this committee's intelligence. It really is ludicrous."
