Saw this on a Police Scotland regional Facebook page, and not much to see at all, so didn't bother with it originally. Nw8Qq5xbJl On Friday 25th April, Highland and Islands Police Officers and Highland Council Trading Standards carried out various roadside checks on taxi and private hire cars as part of a joint operation in the City Centre of Inverness to ensure drivers were operating within the terms of their taxi licence and to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy and had the correct documentation. The operation was a success with, 30 vehicles stopped and checked. During the operation, several taxi licensing infringements were identified. As well as that, numerous warnings were also issued to drivers in relation to construction and use requirements. Mark McGinty, Trading Standards Team Leader, said “Once again we are pleased to be working with our partners at Police Scotland to ensure that the standards required of drivers and operators are being met and licensing conditions are being complied with. From a Trading Standards perspective we are pleased at the high level of compliance with only two vehicle checks resulting in enforcement action. This trade provides an important service to the local community and visitors alike, and it is paramount that legality and safety are ensured, and we will continue to work with the trade and our partners to that end.”

Although the headline is quite positive for the trade, but I wonder how the brief mention of the two subject to enforcement action came about that isn't in the statement above? Other than that, it's mainly a total rehash. Some 30 taxi and private hire cars were stopped in roadside checks on Friday last week (April 25) with several licensing infringements identified and “numerous” warnings issued. These were mainly in relation to ‘construction and use requirements’ which involve passenger safety and comfort issues, such as seatbelts flooring and vehicle age. Two taxis now face enforcement action, but the joint police and Highland Council trading standards action was said to have found the majority of drivers were operating within the terms of their taxi licence, with roadworthy vehicles and correct documentation. And that 'construction and use' stuff looks the only other real difference between the police Facebook post and the press version. And actually sounds like the kind of stuff they'd get a bit more uppity about elsewhere. And, I mean, how could you be 'warned' about vehicle age? It's either still within any age rule, or it isn't
