This starts unremarkably and just goes downhill after that.

I mean, even if the article was at all interesting, it's spectacularly wrong on the details. And apart from that, there isn't much meat on the bones. Unless you want to read a brief 'safety-is-paramount' style statement from the council :-o

Bolton Council reveals number of taxi licences revoked

https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/25 ... s-revoked/

Five taxi drivers have had their licences revoked since the start of the year, the council has revealed.

The figures come from a request made under the Freedom of Information Act to Bolton Council.

A private hire vehicle licence is required to legally drive a taxi or private hire vehicle (PHV) in England and Wales.

A PHV can only be pre-booked, while taxis can also be hired at a rank or hailed in the street.

Applicants typically need to have held a full driving licence for at least 12 months and the licence usually lasts for three years.

Holders of the licence need to be a “fit and proper person” according to the Government – which means that your background and character will be checked.

The figures show that since January 2025 – five drivers in Bolton have lost their licence to drive private hire vehicles.

A total of 29 drivers have lost their licences since January 2020.

Cllr Hamid Khurram, Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for highways, transport and regulatory services said that public safety is their “top priority”.

He said: “Public safety is our top priority, and we have robust systems in place to ensure that only those who meet our high standards are licensed to operate as private hire drivers in Bolton.

“The revocation of 29 licences since 2020 – including five so far this year – reflects our firm commitment to maintaining these standards and taking appropriate action where necessary.

“We take every case seriously and act swiftly when concerns are raised, to ensure the travelling public can have full confidence in the safety and integrity of our licensed drivers."

Er, two major errors there - it's not about vehicle licences and, er, the other error should be obvious...

Sure about that? Because that's not what the headline says, and the article is quite specific about the taxi/private hire distinction elsewhere...
