Nothing at all new about all this, but worth reading Veezu's PR spiel occasionally, or at least as rehashed here by the local press.

And also interesting because I'd guess Veezu is the nearest thing to the likes of Uber but still primarily old school in inception, and also rooted in the UK rather than Wall Street or Silicon Valley :?

And seemingly expanding primarily via acquisition rather than Uber's organic growth, as the business people might say - Uber and Bolt et al don't buy existing brands; they start from scratch in each new location [-(

The largest private-hire taxi operator in Cambridge is changing its name. The familiar look of Panther Taxis is getting an overhaul and a new brand.

Now known as Veezu, the change follows Panther’s acquisition by the Veezu Group in 2022. Veezu says it is the UK’s fastest-growing and largest private hire technology company.

The brand operates in more than 50 locations nationwide and "partners with over 16,000 driver-partners", it says. Passengers can use the Veezu app that was introduced in Cambridge in 2024.

The app features smarter address search, real-time vehicle tracking, and multiple payment options including Apple Pay, Google Pay and cash. Business travellers from 2,000 corporate accounts can continue to use Veezu’s dedicated account support and streamlined digital booking solutions, the company said.

A Veezu spokesperson said: "Cambridge welcomes a diverse range of passengers – from international students and tourists to professionals and business leaders. Many rely on trusted local knowledge to navigate the city with ease.

"By combining Panther’s trusted local expertise with Veezu’s national scale and technology, the service is evolving to offer even greater convenience and reliability for communities across Cambridge and the surrounding areas. The rebrand comes at a time when Cambridge is stepping up its efforts to modernise local transport and cut emissions.

"Veezu operates a fleet of over 650 vehicles in the region, and an increasing proportion of these are hybrid or fully electric, helping reduce emissions and improve air quality in line with the city’s climate ambitions. Cambridge City Council recently reported a 10.8% drop in its own emissions over the past year and continues to lead efforts to lower carbon across the city.

"Veezu’s ongoing investment in lower-emission vehicles and smarter ride technology supports this direction by offering cleaner, more efficient ways to travel across the region."

Paul Clare, regional operations director at Veezu, said: “Panther Taxis has been at the heart of Cambridge transport for more than three decades. As we bring the brand under the Veezu name, we’re investing in smarter technology, cleaner vehicles and new tools to improve the passenger experience.

"This change reflects our ambition to evolve with the city, supporting Cambridge’s goals on innovation and sustainability while continuing to deliver the dependable service passengers rely on every day.”

Indeed, Edders. It's like a clown car, or something like that

But I'd guess that's just one car used for marketing purposes, as opposed to the normal livery and logo used by the 'driver-partners' [-(

Most panther cars had the grey panther on the side, AFAIK the company owned the vehicles and the drivers rented them. I have never driven in Cambridge and noticed an un branded panther car.
