If every incident like this ended up in court, they probably wouldn't have time to deal with anything else But although it doesn't say, the speed with which this was dealt with maybe suggests he appeared from overnight custody? And the stuff below maybe provides further clues... Chilton man racially abused taxi drivers in Darlington https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/ ... arlington/ A County Durham man who made racially aggravated threats and abusive comments toward a taxi driver before threatening to smash up another taxi has been sentenced to a community order after appearing before magistrates. Ayden Carrick, 33, of Laurel Road, Chilton, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, where he admitted two charges stemming from an incident in Darlington on Monday, June 2. The court heard that Carrick threatened to damage a taxi owned by one driver, telling him he would cause harm to the vehicle. He also directed racially abusive language at another driver in a separate incident that same day. The court heard that both victims were left distressed by the nature of the comments and threats. Carrick pleaded guilty to threatening to cause criminal damage and to attempted racially aggravated harassment, with the latter charge reflecting the racially abusive nature of the insults he used. Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order, requiring Carrick to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work—an uplift from the usual 40 hours to reflect the racial aggravation of the offence. He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation to each of the victims, totalling £200. No additional court costs were imposed. |

...and Google suggests he's got a bit of a record, including beating up a couple of police officers a few years ago (suspended sentence), and a more recent spell in prison for breaching a domestic violence protection order All of which might explain why the case was pursued at all

Quote: But although it doesn't say, the speed with which this was dealt with maybe suggests he appeared from overnight custody? You're getting quite good at this legal stuff. He was defo kept in overnight and charged and brought to court the next day. That said, what normally happens is the defendant is released by the police and subsequently sent a summons to appear before the GAP or NGAP courts. |
