Chesham taxi rank racial abuse investigation as glass bottle 'thrown'https://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/2 ... e-ongoing/A hate crime investigation has been launched after taxi drivers were racially abused and attacked at a town taxi rank.Taxi drivers in Chesham said they were targeted with racist slurs, shouted at and even had a glass bottle thrown at them in an incident on Wednesday (July 9).
No arrests have been made and Thames Valley Police has confirmed it is investigating this as a hate crime.
A spokesperson for Chesham taxi drivers said drivers were standing at the taxi rank outside of their cars at the time because they were hot.
He added that a man was seen throwing a glass bottle at one of the men, but he was not physically injured.
The spokesperson said: "They (the taxi drivers) are feeling very very scared, they are just saddened and fearing for their safety."
A Thames Valley Spokesperson said: “We were called to a racially aggravated assault without injury at around 5.50pm yesterday (9/7).
“A man was shouted at and assaulted in Chesham High Street.
“An investigation has been launched. No arrests have been made at this time.
“Anyone with information should call 101 or make an online report, via our website, quoting crime reference number 43250344521.”
The spokesman for the taxi drivers said that there were "a lot of people" around at the time of the incident, including several who were filming, and he is appealing for people to send their footage to the police.
