Not a huge amount to see here, but at least the language in this official press release is quite precise in terms of HC/PHV (although no numbers), and in terms of where they were licensed, and in terms of any issues, too Although the one cross-border car examined got a clean bill of health, but it's not specified where it was from... But considering the DVSA were present, and the cars were 'thoroughly examined', then seven of eight checked getting clean bill of health certainly isn't the worst result Taxi safety checks help keep the public safe in Ribble Valley https://www.ribblevalley.gov.uk/news/ar ... ble-valley Taxi enforcement officers from Ribble Valley Borough Council, in collaboration with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), have conducted the latest round of spot checks in Ribble Valley. During the inspections, a total of eight private hire vehicles and hackney carriages were thoroughly examined, seven of which were licensed by the council. Out of the total inspected, seven vehicles were found to be of the required standard. One Ribble Valley licensed vehicle had a tyre with tread depth below the legal limit and a faulty indicator. It was immediately taken off the road but allowed back into service a few days later after the necessary repairs and a further inspection had been carried out. Councillor Ian Brown, chairman of the council’s licensing committee, said: “The council and DVLA carry out regular inspections of licensed vehicles in the borough to help ensure standards are kept high and passengers, and drivers, are kept safe. “It’s good to see that, once again, the vast majority of licensed vehicles tested were up to the required standards. These inspections will continue and those small number of vehicles that aren’t up to scratch will be taken off the road until the necessary work on them is carried out.”. |

Looks like the TaxiPoint rehash has got it wrong in the headline here And can't be due to an error by the council which the council has later corrected (say), because the headline below is inconsistent with the text in the article, as highlighted... Ribble Valley taxi and private hire checks take one out-of-area vehicle off the road after faults found https://www.taxi-point.co.uk/post/ribbl ... -faults-fo Taxi enforcement officers from Ribble Valley Borough Council, working alongside the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), have carried out a new round of unannounced vehicle checks across the district. Eight vehicles, made up of both private hire cars and hackney carriages, were inspected during the operation. Seven of the vehicles were licensed by Ribble Valley Borough Council. Council officials confirmed that seven of the vehicles met the required safety and licensing standards during the inspections. However, one vehicle licensed by the authority was taken off the road after inspectors found a tyre below the legal tread depth and a faulty indicator. The car was only permitted back into service once it had undergone repairs and passed a follow-up inspection. The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Ribble Valley Borough Council to ensure the local taxi fleet remains safe and compliant. The council has not disclosed the date or specific locations of the checks but reiterated its commitment to working with partners such as the DVSA to maintain standards. Quote: And can't be due to an error by the council which the council has later corrected (say), because the headline below is inconsistent with the text in the article, as highlighted... Hmmmmmmmmm. Sometimes it might be better if people stepped away from the narrative they wished were the case. |
