Don't know what to make of this...

On the one hand, she obviously should have paid the fare - she was given enough chances.

On the other hand, what a rigmarole over a £30 fare

And, although it's cost her a bit more than the £20 fine, I mean... ](*,)

Former Powys nurse failed to pay for £30 taxi fare

A FORMER nurse who failed to pay for a taxi fare has appeared in court, after she repeatedly ignored chances to settle the matter outside of court.

Victoria Foster, 31, appeared at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 26, where she admitted a charge of making off without payment.

The incident relates to bailing on a £30 taxi fare in Montgomery on January 8 this year.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said: “The defendant had a taxi and, as she got out, she went to pay for the journey with her card, but it was immediately declined.

“She was told this by the driver but she left. The driver attempted to call her but there was no answer. He said he would give her until 6pm the next day to pay, but this was ignored.

“She was later offered an out of court settlement but she declined this too.”

Acting for the defendant, of Lake Farm, Churchstoke, Gurleen Kaur said her client had been going through a “turbulent” time.

“It is a very minor matter, but has been going on a while,” said Ms Kaur.

“She was offered an out-of-court settlement, which she agreed to, but the date to pay passed, due to her personal circumstances.

“It was a turbulent time. She has been suffering with her mental health.

“She admits she should have made it, but her mental health is such that she has become forgetful and, on the night, she had drunk a bottle of alcohol.

“She is a district nurse by trade but as a result of her personal circumstances she has been on a downward spiral and has left her employment.

“She has been in touch with the taxi company and has agreed to pay what she owes by a date in September.”

Ms Kaur added that Foster has no previous convictions whatsoever.

Magistrates fined Foster £20 and made a formal order for her to pay £30 compensation to the taxi company. She must also pay £85 costs and an £8 surcharge.
