This looked a tad over the top, but apparently threats were uttered, so maybe not... Taxi driver foiled in illegal pick-up attempt has licence appeal denied https://www.trafford.gov.uk/residents/n ... enied.aspx A taxi driver who tried to make an illegal pick-up at a party night in Manchester city centre had an appeal against his licence revocation denied by magistrates. Another driver approached Waqas Pervez, 35, about his unlawful behaviour outside Up Ya Archives, a drum and bass, jungle, dubstep and UK garage night at the Warehouse Project, Mayfield Depot, Picadilly, last November. As a Trafford-registered Hackney Carriage driver he was not allowed to pick up passengers in Manchester without an advance booking. The court heard Mr Pervez, of Daresbury Road in Chorlton, was captured on mobile phone video footage swearing at the other driver, threatening him, saying: “Everybody does it!” Mr Pervez was reported to Trafford Council’s Licensing Enforcement Team. The Council’s Licensing Sub Committee deemed him “not a fit and proper person” to hold his Hackney Carriage and Private Hire licenses, at a Trafford Town Hall meeting in February. He took the matter to an appeal before Manchester Magistrates, but the revocation was upheld, and he was ordered to pay £150 costs to the Council. At points, Mr Pervez claimed the fare was prebooked via his mobile phone, through his brother, and via an operator in Salford. Giving evidence, Ben Moran, Licensing Enforcement Team Lead, said that even if the booking had been made through an operator in Salford, the fare would have still been unlawful, invalidating insurance and putting the passengers at risk. Cllr Rose Thompson, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Safety, said: “Our licensing enforcement officers are proactive in supporting the trade, when such behaviour takes place in the borough. Where public safety is undermined, we will take action. The standards that we expect of our drivers is very clear.” |

Quote: Giving evidence, Ben Moran, Licensing Enforcement Team Lead, said that even if the booking had been made through an operator in Salford, the fare would have still been unlawful, invalidating insurance and putting the passengers at risk. Would it, though? Quote: ...outside Up Ya Archives, a drum and bass, jungle, dubstep and UK garage night at the Warehouse Project, Mayfield Depot, Picadilly... Thanks for that totally irrelevant detail Quote: The court heard Mr Pervez, of Daresbury Road in Chorlton, was captured on mobile phone video footage swearing at the other driver, threatening him, saying: “Everybody does it!” ...and which unnecessary detail above simply underlines the lack of detail about the threat issued, which in my opinion is the crux of the matter

Quote: Thanks for that totally irrelevant detail ![]() is it ? that information told us it was a train station pick up (not that any trains have used it for quite a few years)

Not sure about that. In fact, the driver didn't need to make any record of the 'booking', if indeed there was one. |

For me the interesting bit is that this was done because a driver made a video and complained. This is exactly the sort of stuff my Council are "advising" me not to do. |
