Not sure if there's much new here apart from the court procedural stuff, but certainly plenty of detail on the charges etc.
And a bit of odd Scots-law specific terminology like 'diet in solemn proceedings'
Certainly not doing himself any favours here, though...
(And I suspect the press headline here is missing a word or two at the end...)
Ayr private hire driver charged with sex assault has warranthttps://www.ayradvertiser.com/news/2559 ... t-warrant/A PRIVATE hire cab driver accused of sexually assaulting a woman near Ayr's cemetery - before allegedly stealing a vehicle outside the town's police station - has had a warrant issued for his arrest.Masood Sultanee was due to face charges of sexual assault, breaching licence conditions by picking the alleged victim up without a booking, and car theft at Ayr Sheriff Court.
The 30-year-old accused is said to have attacked and coerced the woman at Ayr Cemetery on Holmston Road, as well as communicate indecently with her and sexually expose himself to her during an incident on March 16, 2024.
The Crown's indictment claims the accused, of Glasgow, touched her on the body over her clothing, exposed himself to her and repeatedly requested that she touch his privates.
Prosecutors allege that he repeatedly requested she kiss him and repeatedly pulled her hand into contact with his privates "all for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification or of humiliating, distressing or alarming" the woman.
He also faces a charge of failing to comply with a condition attached to his private hire car driver's licence, outside Harley's Bar on the High Street on the same date.
He is alleged to have picked up two passengers, the woman named in the charge and another male whose identity is unknown to prosecutors, from the roadside, without being there with a pre-booked hire in place for the passengers.
Sultanee faces a third charge of stealing a motor vehicle at the roadway outside Ayr police office at Newton House in Green Street the next day on March 17, 2024.
We previously reported bail was continued for Sultanee, of Benmore Tower in Cambuslang, when he first appeared.
When he was due to appear in court for another pre-trial first diet hearing earlier this week, defence solicitor Matthew Berlow had no explanation for the accused's non attendance.
He asked to preserve the trial diet and adjourn, and the Crown requested a further hearing for outstanding evidence.
Sheriff Siobhan Connelly said: "I'm concerned that the accused has not attended a diet in solemn proceedings - I'm concerned we will be no further forward if the accused is not present next time.
Mr Berlow told the court his client had been engaged all the time, but "gone silent the past couple days", adding his normal number was not answering.
The fiscal depute added: "On that basis we would be seeking a warrant.
Sheriff Connelly said: "I think it unfortunate but I do have concern if the accused has ceased engagement and there is no reasonable explanation for his non-attendance."
A warrant to apprehend the accused was issued by the sheriff.
