This is in the Oxford Mail, but can't see anything on the Thames Valley Police social media or official news releases, so I'd guess they're not exactly treating it as a priority... (By bike I mean as in 'biker', but it's claimed in the Mail's comments that it was a scooter of some kind.) 'Man assaulted by taxi driver' in Oxford Cowley Road attack https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/25527 ... ad-attack/ An alleged taxi driver assault during the early hours of the morning in Oxford has left a man with injuries, it is understood. A report was made to Thames Valley Police at about 12.40am today (8 October) of an assault in Cowley Road. It is understood that the assault was allegedly carried out by a taxi driver, leaving a man with facial injuries, as well as damage to his motorbike. A spokesperson for the police force said: “We received a report around 12.37am of an assault in Cowley Road in Oxford. “No arrests have been made and our investigation is ongoing. "We would ask anyone with information to contact us online or via 101 quoting the reference 43250512907.” It is understood the taxi driver had a licence approved by Oxford City Council. A spokesperson for the authority said: "We have not received any notification regarding this incident. "If further details are provided, we will follow the usual compliance process to ensure public safety. "In addition, we maintain a joint operating framework with Thames Valley Police to ensure that the necessary information is shared in support of any ongoing police investigation." |

A couple of comments on the Mail's website casting doubt on things. And, as per usual, often looks a bit dodgy when things are posted on social media before reporting to police. But that's why I'm always wary when people start waving cameras around, or official and/or smartarse advice is always to take a photo of the driver/badge/plate etc. On the small number of occasions that's happened to me it's always obviously been just to intimidate. But you wonder if these people might put your photo up on social media, or whatever, and accuse you of all sorts Of course, there was that local Facebook page here that seems to have died down now, but drivers' photos would be posted up there (by other members of the trade ) with little or zero evidence supporting the allegations Quote: was from a social media post from a partner of the person apparently involved. they said they hadn't yet reported to the police. posting a photo of the cab allegedly involved and allegations on social media prior to contacting the police seems an odd approach.

This all sounds a bit like someone trying to get money by badmouthing someone on social media. If there had been a genuine incident they should have gone to the Thames Bobbies unless of course they had something to hide or events weren't quite as described. Wouldn't be the first person to put lies up on the internet and expect everyone to believe it was the truth. |
