But it's made to sound like something hugely grave and unusual (well it's grave for the driver, obviously, but not really worthy of a press report, I'd say).
And there are a few other unrelated earlier incidents mentioned to pad it all out. Or at least I'm assuming the incidents are unrelated, and that the driver in the headline just failed the medical. Because it's a tad jumbled, like the Sleaford piece the other day...
Ipswich Borough Council suspends taxi driver licence
An Ipswich taxi driver has had his licence immediately suspended after they failed to pass a medical examination.
The decision was made by Ipswich Borough Council last week after the hackney carriage and private hire driver, who has not been named, failed to provide a current medical.
This follows taxi driver having their license suspended earlier this year after they were found to be carrying a knife.
The decision to suspend the driver's licence was made last Thursday by the borough council's head of public protection as the driver was unable to meet the requirements of the hackney carriage and private hire policy.
No alternative options were considered while the chair of licensing and regulatory committee was consulted on the decision.
Taxi driver medicals are required in the UK to ensure drivers are physically and mentally fit to operate a vehicle, protecting passengers and other road users from accidents caused by medical conditions.
These assessments confirm drivers meet stringent DVLA medical standards, checking for conditions that could impair driving, such as heart disease, diabetes, and visual or neurological issues.
Earlier this year, an Ipswich taxi driver had their licence suspended after they were caught in possession of a knife.
The driver had their licence revoked by Ipswich Borough Council on May 12 after an allegation of affray and carrying a knife was made against them.
John Cook, Ipswich Borough Council's portfolio holder for communities and sport, said the council takes the safety of passengers "extremely seriously".
In July, a taxi driver has been stripped of their licence for allegedly causing a serious incident and failing to report it.
Ipswich Borough Council was forced to revoke the licence of the individual after being informed by Suffolk police of the incident.
Due to the severity of the alleged incident, the council did not consider any other option but to take away the licence of the individual.
