Wolverhampton Uber Driver Follows Sat Nav Straight Into a Farmer’s Field

A Wolverhampton-licensed Uber driver has gone viral after a YouTube video showed their car stranded in the middle of a muddy farmer’s field — all because they followed the sat nav too literally.

A video uploaded to YouTube by Mr GDB Offical, shows the confused Wolverhampton driver was bogged down in the farmer’s field. In the footage, the stranded white prius can be seen stuck in the farmers field after incorrectly following the sat nav — an all-too-familiar reminder for taxi and private hire drivers of the risks of relying solely on GPS directions in rural areas.

Sat nav mishaps on the rise

This isn’t the first time navigation errors have landed motorists in trouble. UK motoring organisations have repeatedly warned that over-reliance on GPS systems can cause drivers to end up on unsuitable or private roads — particularly in rural areas where mapping data can be incomplete or outdated. For private hire and Uber drivers, especially those operating outside their licensed area, unfamiliar terrain can make such mistakes even more likely.

DM News Commentary

While this video sparked plenty of laughs online, it highlights a more serious point — the importance of situational awareness behind the wheel. Many drivers, especially those using Uber’s in-app navigation, have complained about outdated or inaccurate rural routing. Wolverhampton-plated drivers frequently travel outside the city, and when working across counties, poor signage or low-light conditions can easily confuse even experienced drivers.
