Joint operation between Inverness police officers and Highland Council Trading Standards finds taxi drivers falling short on dress code, documentation and vehicle condition

Not much here, though. I'd guess the unlicensed car had expired or something like that, as opposed to anything more sinister, but it's not wholly clear.
Apart from that it's small beer, and I'd guess the tyre warnings were maybe just about tread getting low as opposed to specific illegality. Thus a warning of impending illegality, as opposed to a warning for illegality

On Friday 31 October 2025, Inverness Police Officers and Highland Council Trading Standards carried out various roadside checks on taxi and private hire cars as part of a joint operation in the City Centre of Inverness and the surrounding area to was to ensure drivers were operating within the terms of their taxi licence and to ensure their vehicles were roadworthy and had the correct documentation.
As a result of this, 27 vehicles were stopped and checked. During the operation, various drivers were given warnings for not holding the correct documentation in their vehicles, along with inappropriate dress code and condition of the Taxi’s themselves. Warnings were also issued in relation to the condition of tyres on vehicles, especially now leading up to the winter season.
As well as that, one vehicle was stopped and found to be operating without a valid Taxi Licence in place, and the Police and Trading Standards are carrying out further enquiries into this matter.
Police Constable Siobhan Cooper from the City Centre Policing Team, Inverness, said “This was another good opportunity to engage with drivers and carry out the relevant checks of their vehicles. With the winter season upon us, it was a good opportunity to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and in a safe condition. It was good to see that most drivers again were operating within the terms of their licences”
Mark McGinty, Trading Standards Team Leader, said “The operation of taxi and private hire vehicles is a licensable activity, and holders of licences are subject to adhering to the conditions of the licence. The purpose of the licence is to ensure that the service provided is safe and fair. Whilst it is again encouraging that the level of compliance was good, it is noted that some find themselves the subject of warnings. Should Operators or Drivers be unsure of what is required of them they can obtain a copy of their licence conditions by contacting the Highland Council Licensing Team. Trading Standards welcomes the opportunity to work alongside Police Scotland in similar operations in the future.”
