Was looking for the source last night but there was a glitch with the Trafford Council website
But it's another one of those slightly odd council press releases from Trafford, which reads more like a slightly jazzed up press report, as opposed to a sober news release (of course, many of such notices aren't exactly what might be called 'straight bat', but slanted in a different way...).
But, I mean, show me another council press release with an exclamation mark!
Never mind the three in this release!!!
Surprised there wasn't a match report included, but I see the rehash in the Oldham Times has managed to shoehorn in the fact that United won 2-1
Out-of-area taxi driver fined after illegally plying for hire after Manchester United matchhttps://www.trafford.gov.uk/residents/n ... match.aspxA taxi driver from Wolverhampton was fined after trying to pick up fares on Sir Alex Ferguson Way as football fans left Old Trafford.Mr Ali Imran Shah Shreen, 55, was waiting in his black Toyota Auris after Manchester United's Premier League match against Brentford when Trafford Council Licensing Enforcement Officers spotted him.
A woman’s exclamation to Mr Shreen of “£25?! Are you joking?!” drew officers to investigate. Mr Shreen was asked multiple times to show his private hire driver’s badge, which he resisted, eventually complying when it was explained that not doing so would be committing a further offence.
After the officer had established that Mr Shreen was illegally plying for hire, he said: “It was only one time!”
Only Trafford Council-registered Hackney Carriages are allowed to pick up without a pre-booked job in the borough. Private hire licence holders must take advance bookings only.
At Manchester Magistrates Court, Mr Shreen was found guilty of illegally plying for hire, failing to wear driver’s identification badge and obstructing an authorised officer. He was fined a total of £1,453 with a victim surcharge of £581 and costs of £1,500, a total of £3,543.
A Trafford Council spokesperson said:
“We are committed to ensuring the public are protected, and that the trading environment is fair, protecting consumers and drivers that are licensed to operate in the borough.”
