Not really the kind of article you'd expect to find in the Mid-Devon Advertiser, but it may be one of those syndicated pieces. And, despite the source, it does seem to cover the whole of the Devon & Cornwall Police area. And it's oddly brief as well - this seems to be the whole article, but maybe part of it is missing for whatever reason. But probably the most interesting angle to it all is the timing - almost one third of total offences took place around midnight (to the nearest hour), so that would be consistent with what we all know about this kind of thing Number of sexual offences committed by taxi drivers revealed https://www.middevonadvertiser.co.uk/ne ... led-850145 THE number of sexual offences committed by taxi drivers in the past three years has been revealed in a Freedom of Information (FOI) request. In the past three financial years, Devon & Cornwall Police recorded 34 offences, the FOI request shows. Twelve of the total 34 offences were committed around midnight. Eleven of the offences related to sexual assault of a female, with 13 relating to rape and the remainder relating to exposure and sexual communication. Each month between April 2022 and March 2025 saw between one and two offences.

The raw data is here for anyone interested, and possible to spend some time interrogating it all Problem is maybe that the numbers are relatively small in terms of statistical analysis, so to that extent any conclusions therefrom wouldn't be that reliable in statistical terms. But as regards timing, there's a definite spike in these things around midnight. On the other hand, there seem to be more offences in the afternoon than in the evening, which seems a bit odd. Again, though, the numbers are small, so any conclusions therefrom maybe wouldn't be too reliable... There are also 12 or so different offence categories, which a certain someone on here might be better placed to analyse than the rest of us... But, for example, there seems to be a difference between rape of a female over 16, and rape of a woman over 16 - I'd guess that in actual fact it's the same offence, but just categorised very slightly differently for recording purposes. But those two are the most recorded offences (9 out of the total of 34 between the two categories), while the highest number is for the category simply labelled 'sexual assault', which is 11 out of the 34 https://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/fo ... h-drivers/

hmmm... midnight would that be when p*ss^d up cinders decides she needs to head home from the ball and is at her most (tempting) I mean vulnerable

Also worth mentioning is the actual FOI question, which asks for 'a count of sexual offences by taxi and PVH drivers'. Personally, I'd have also included the term 'hackney carriage', and spelt out the words 'private hire driver' rather than use PHV And it's not clear precisely how they carry out the search for these things, but no sign that they used terms like hackney carriage or private hire. On the other hand, they do seem to have included 'Uber'. Of course, it's likely that police would record most offences like this simply under 'taxi', and to that extent all of them would be picked up. Also, they seem to have used the (very) generic term 'driver' for search purposes, so that might be too broad But shows the importance of getting the terminololgy bang on for recording purposes. And also shows the importance of using the right search criteria for actually finding recorded offences But, like the numbers themselves, without knowing precisely how these thing are recorded, and how the FOI is conducted in terms of data search and interrogation, it's difficult to asses precisely how accurate the data might be...
