Not clear here what 'prosecutions secured' means when the extact phrase used is 'reported for prosecution' :?

Nor what the difference is between 'fake' and 'illegal' taxis :-o

Anyway, this is a rehash of a brief tweet posted by Brum police.

It looks like they didn't actually find any fake or illegal taxis, but obviously found a few issues...

West Midlands Police officers have teamed up with the Taxi Licensing teams to crack down on illegal and fake taxis operating in Birmingham city centre.

Posting on X, Birmingham city centre police reported stopping taxis around the city, issuing nine penalties, and reporting some for prosecution by the Taxi Licensing group.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Officers ran an operation to combat illegal and fake taxis, working with Taxi Licensing, we stopped taxis and issued nine fixed penalties.

"Some taxis were reported for prosecution by Taxi Licensing."

The force urged anyone with concerns about a taxi to contact them via their 101 number, their WebChat service, or, in an emergency, to contact 999 immediately.

The spokesperson added: "If you are concerned about a taxi, let us know on 101, WebChat or in an Emergency 999."

I think it's the difference between a final decision to prosecute being made versus it being considered.

Either by the police or the council's legal department.
