A council taxi enforcement officer caught the driver with passengers in the back of the car.
A private hire driver has been caught with illegally picked up passengers in the back of his car at Glasgow Central station. Gurdett Singh’s licence was suspended for three months after a council taxi enforcement officer spotted people entering his vehicle without a booking.
A group of people were seen getting into the motor during a date in August, a meeting heard this week. When the official approached the driver it was discovered the job did not show up in the booking system.
Singh made a number of excuses at yesterday’s licensing and regulatory committee. But it emerged he had made a different statement at the time of the incident – admitting the mistake.
Speaking at the committee, Singh said somebody just “jumped” into his car during the “busy night” and he told the man he didn’t have the “job” booked in.
He said: “He refused to leave.”
He added: “I asked him to leave my car. It all happened in 45 seconds.”
Committee chair Alex Wilson replied: “You accepted people into your vehicle without the job being in your system.”
He added: “You had people in your car. They should not be in your vehicle.”
