Uber driver loses licence over parking row weapon attack https://www.burytimes.co.uk/news/257134 ... on-attack/ An Uber driver reacted in an "extreme" way when he was asked to move his vehicle because it was causing an obstruction. Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Yasir Butt shouted abuse at the other man before exiting his car armed with a wheel brace. He then struck the victim on the hand with the wrench, causing immediate pain. Butt, 40, of Reynolds Street, Burnley, pleaded guilty to assault. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 120 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £200 compensation to the victim, £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge, and his taxi licence had now been revoked. Deputy District Judge Rita Price said the defendant's behaviour had been "quite disgraceful". "The prosecution has described it as an extreme reaction when you were asked to move your car," said Deputy District Judge Price. "Your response was totally disproportionate." Graeme Tindall, prosecuting, played mobile phone footage of the incident taken by the aggrieved. It showed him knocking on the window of the taxi and asking Butt to move his car. Butt asked if he "knew how to talk to people" and then started shouting abuse at the other man. Seconds later, he got out of his car carrying a wheel brace, which he used to hit the other man on the hand. "The blow caused immediate pain," said Mr Tindall. Waseem Chowdhary, mitigating, said his client had no previous convictions and accepted full responsibility for his actions. "His view is that he was minding his own business," said Mr Chowdhary. "He was out of the way and not causing an obstruction to anyone as he was working as an Uber driver. "The aggrieved attended, and my client says it was the way he behaved which got him going." |
