...and bilking a £15.90 fare. But imagine if every case like this ended up in court And apart from the obvious misuse of one word (kind of mistake that's easily made ), not really anything else particularly interesting here.Chester Magistrates Court fines Grimsby man over taxi fare https://www.chesterstandard.co.uk/news/ ... taxi-fare/ A GRIMSBY man has experienced a very expensive argument when he decided to run off from a Chester taxi without paying his fare. Gavin Jeavons, 33, of Cooper Road, pleaded guilty to using threatening and abusive words plus making off without payment at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday. It related to an incident in the city on November 22 when the defendant was working in Chester and had been out. He was returning to the Mercure Hotel via taxi when he asked the driver to make a stop at a Co-op store to buy cigarettes. However, the driver told him that it was closed and that the vehicle would not be stopping, leading to Jeavons becoming aggressive. According to the prosecution, the defendant called the driver a ‘f****r’ before jumping out of the vehicle with the fare at £15.90 and refused to pay. Chris Hunt, duty solicitor, told the court his client was ‘heartily ashamed’ of his behaviour and said his actions in not paying the £15.90 fine has cost him hundreds of pounds. He said: “He’s heartily ashamed of his behaviour this morning. “At the time, he was staying in the area, and he admits the example he has set his children is not the right one. “He’s got into a daft argument with a taxi driver just doing his job. “It’s been a very expensive argument for him as he’s had to spend £100 to get here, lose a day of work and pay for a hotel. “But he’s been out of trouble for a long time and a financial penalty that reflects that plus his shame is what is best here.” Magistrates agreed and fined him £266 and also ordered Jeavons to pay £15.90 to the driver plus a surcharge of £106 and prosecution costs of £85. |

A good result. It would be nice if this one wasn't just the one in a the thousand that makes it to court. |
