Post subject:  Moray car seized as found working after spotcheck suspension

A brief official Police Scotland Facebook post, which has been rehashed in several outlets, including Taxi Point.

Not much detail, and nothing too spectacular.

Except that one car siezed after it had been issued with a 'prohibition notice' but kept working :-o

Thus it was presumably suspended and/or plate removed :?

And two-thirds of the total stopped received 'advice'. Thus not sure if there's an overlap with the numbers, but looks like only a handful had a totally clean bill of health.

Of course, we all know what that kind of 'advice' can be like :?

On Friday 19 December 2025 Road Policing Officers from Elgin worked alongside Moray Council Licensing and the DVSA to carry out joint taxi and private hire vehicle checks across Moray.

During the operation;

Fifteen vehicles were checked.

Four defects were identified, two prohibitions from use were issued for vehicle safety issues.

One taxi was seized having been found being driven after a prohibition was issued.

Ten drivers received licensing or documentation advice.

Constable Ross Houghton from the Road Policing Unit said, “These checks focused on vehicle roadworthiness, driver and operator documentation, insurance and licensing compliance to help keep passengers and other road users safe. We work closely with our partners to ensure that we all contribute towards road safety and safeguard the public.”

Of course, you don't get 'headlines' on Facebook posts, but this is the headline in the P&J, which is a tad sensationalist, but I don't suppose is inaccurate in any way :?

And this is the Taxi Point version, which gives the impression that two cars were prohibited and another seized, but looks to me that the car seized was also one of those prohibited :?

Madness, you would have thought the driver/owner would have put what was wrong back to being right.

But this trade has a wide range of folks in it, and this time of year, with all the financial pressures on drivers, we do have some desperate ones.
