(Hopefully clunky thread title will make more sense after reading this - usual space constraints )Couldn't be bothered reading the late Bolt submission to the TransComm inquiry following the oral evidence session. But noticed this intriguing headline in Taxi Point, so decided to have a look And in fact the raw data it's based on isn't just intriguing, it strikes me as just being off-the-scale crazy Bolt submits data showing out-of-area private hire drivers receive LESS complaints compared to drivers working their licensed area https://www.taxi-point.co.uk/post/bolt- ... d-to-drive |

Anyway, this is the source for the claim in Bolt's submission: In a recent submission to the TransComm inquiry, Bolt wrote: We currently operate under the triple lock, where the vehicle, driver and operator are licensed by the same authority. Our data does not show that out of area work is inherently less safe where licensing standards are aligned. In London in 2024, out of area licensees accounted for a small share of safety related complaints and had a lower complaint rate per 10,000 journeys than London licensed drivers (0.128 complaints per 10,000 rides vs 4.894 complaints per 10,000 rides). https://committees.parliament.uk/writte ... 61396/pdf/ So they're talking about London, so they're presumably comparing TfL-registered cars with the likes of Wolves. So, correct me if I'm wrong, but they're saying they're 38 times more likely to get a complaint about a TfL car than those from Wolves and elsewhere? Don't know how they've compiled the figures, precisely. But, sorry, taking that claim at face value I smell BS

I mean, how are the TransComm members supposed to construe that claim? That the likes of a Manc-badged driver in Manchester is almost 40 more times more likely to receive a complaint than a Wolves-badged driver working in Manchester? You'd think that everyone on those below-the-line comments in local media about Wolves drivers in the likes of Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are praising them to the rafters, as opposed to constantly moaning about them ![]() I hope the TransComm does something about interrogating those figures... |

Quote: Bolt submits data showing out-of-area private hire drivers receive LESS complaints compared to drivers working their licensed area My considered interpretation is that the above is a load of old bo*****s.
