Post subject:  Mother ‘terrified’ after Aberdeenshire taxi stuck in flood

I'm sure we've all been there, almost - but most of us have got away with it [-o<

And water doesn't look that deep...

And I'd guess 'swept into rising floodwater' is exaggerating it a bit

But a new word I've never seen before - Oodie :-o

Video link about half way down...

Watch the shocking video as Arlo Dobie, 14, had to be rescued by boat from a swamped Kintore road.

An Aberdeenshire mother has spoken of her “terror” after her teenage son’s school taxi became trapped in fast-flowing flood on the way to school.

Amanda Dobie was forced to phone 999 in a panic after her 14-year-old’s taxi was marooned in the River Don at 8.15am this morning.

Just minutes before, the vehicle had attempted to force through water more than two feet deep over the surface before getting stuck.

That led to the cab being stuck for more than an hour and a half on the B977 near the railway crossing on the way to Inverurie Academy.

Water had risen over the taxi’s wheels, and even a nearby farmer was not able to pull the six-seater out.

Amanda, 41, from Hatton of Fintray, said that she feared for her son’s life as police, ambulances and the fire service were eventually deployed to pull them out.

Eventually, a specialist water rescue team was called in, with a boat used to bring both the driver and Arlo safely back to shore.

‘I was panicking massively’

Now, speaking to The Press and Journal, mum-of-three Amanda has opened up over the “terrifying” taxi flood rescue.

She said: “I was actually panicking, massively.

“I was terrified that the current would get a hold of the taxi and just take it.

“I was truly terrified and panicked that something was going to happen that was going to be really, really bad.

“The whole thing could have ended so differently.”

“People think, ‘It’s just water,’ but when you see the current and the water surrounding the taxi, it’s actually so scary.”

Arlo described the boat ride as “bumpy and cold.”

He said: “It wasn’t a smooth ride.

“Pretty cold as well, my hands were freezing from the water going onto them.”

“I was on my knees.

“It wasn’t fun.”

However, the pair are “eternally grateful” for their rescuers.

Amanda said: “They were really, really good. They were so lovely with us.”

“I’m exceptionally grateful to the emergency services. I genuinely don’t know what would have happened without them.”
Schoolboy safe and well after taxi flood rescue

Despite his mum’s worries, Arlo was slightly more relaxed about the situation.

“I was just hoping I would get off school,” he said.

Mum Amanda continued: “He wasn’t really fazed in that taxi. He was playing games on his phone!

“He was just really cold.”

Amanda also revealed that Arlo is now home safe and well after a “traumatic” morning.

She said: “He’s sitting on the sofa now with his Oodie and a blanket watching Netflix.

“We’re just so thankful that everything ended up okay.”

And the driver was unavailable for comment, no doubt :?

Anyway, my first guess about being snuggled up with Oodie was that it was a pet dog, or similar...I mean, if you'd call your son Arlo...

Actually similar to something I've been thinking of buying - one of those oversized hoodie thingamajigs :-o

Lots of cool and cutesy designs - even the normally scary Staffies like quite friendly 8-[

Almost identical incident reported from Dagestan in Russia.

Only real difference with the Aberdeen incident is that rather than bleating from the sidelines, the mother was also in the taxi, and was rescued :-o :-o :-o

Looked at the article to find out why some mush was out in that snow, wearing only a pair of underpants.

Without success, I may add. :-k
