This isn't very exciting, but the news release on the Merseyside Police website, and articles on the Echo's and Wirral Globe's websites seem to have been pulled :-o

And the most obvious explanation for that is that they've got their man. And woman.

But certainly not difficult to ID if anyone knows them...

Anyway, this is still up on the Birkenhead News website. Presumably they were on their way home from a New Year's Night party.

Have a Happy New Year, eh?

Police have released two images of a man who could have information following a serious assault in Prenton earlier this month.

At around 5.30am on Thursday, 1 January, Merseyside Police received a report that a taxi driver had been punched in the face after dropping off two passengers on Prenton Dell Road.

The victim, aged in his 50s, required hospital treatment after suffering a broken nose.

Detective Constable Jess Farrell said, “As part of our ongoing inquiries, we are releasing two images of a man who we believe could have information to help our investigation.

“This was a serious assault that left a taxi driver in hospital. He was just trying to do his job and to be assaulted is shocking and will not be tolerated.

“If you recognise yourself in this image, or you know who this man is, please come forward.

“We are also releasing an image of a woman who we believe witnessed the incident and could also have information to assist the investigation.

“Similarly, we would appeal to this woman to come forward or if you know who she is, let us know and we can carry out further inquiries into this appalling incident.”

If you have any information, you can call 101 or DM @MerpolCC on social media, quoting reference number 26000002469. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Let's hope that is the case.
