What was I saying about Greenock the other day?

Difference this time is that's it's a more predictable male doing the battering, instead of two females lamping each other.

And this time it's the driver who's the target :-|

But I'd guess an apt description of the (alleged) perp here wouldn't be 'level-headed'...

Greenock man charged with punching taxi driver and breaking window

https://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/new ... ng-window/

James Orr allegedly opened the door of the car while the man was driving and repeatedly punched him on the head and body.

Orr, 40, is also said to have seized hold of a partially open window in the car and pulled it, causing the glass to shatter.

He is charged with repeatedly running towards the vehicle, and repeatedly kicking and stamping on one of the doors.

Orr, of MacGillivary Avenue, Greenock, is also alleged to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, shouted, swore and acted in an aggressive and disorderly manner.

The offences are said to have been committed on August 3, 2025.

The matter has been continued without plea to the summary case management court on March 6 to allow for disclosure of evidence.

A bit more context here. But not so much detail about the actual attack, so he doesn't sound quite so crazy here :?

Greenock man admits repeatedly punching taxi driver

https://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/new ... xi-driver/

A GREENOCK taxi driver was repeatedly punched in a violent assault after he happened upon a 'disturbance' in the early hours of the morning, a court has heard.

James Orr attacked the man during an incident in Ladyburn Street on August 3 last year.

The 64-year-old taxi driver was on duty at the time of the assault.

He observed a disturbance – involving Orr - when he turned on to Ladyburn Street at around 2:25am.

While ‘keeping an eye’ on the incident, the driver slowed his vehicle down.

Orr’s attention was drawn to the car and he began running directly towards it.

The 40-year-old opened the driver’s door and ‘immediately’ started throwing punches at the man’s head and body.

The driver’s adult granddaughter was in the vehicle with him at the time of the assault.

Police were contacted via 999 and attended a short time later, where they took photographs of the driver’s injuries. This included bruising to his right forearm.

Greenock Sheriff Court heard that Orr had already made off from the scene before officers arrived.

He pleaded guilty to the assault charge through solicitor Aidan Gallagher on Friday.

Orr, of Ardmore Road, also faced an allegation of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm on the same date, but his plea of not guilty was accepted by the Crown.

Sheriff Anthony McGeehan deferred sentencing until April 1 and requested that a background report be prepared in advance of the next calling.

Just the sentencing bit is new here...

I mean, unpaid work and £750 compo to the driver?

£750 isn't too shabby an amount. But it's hardly what could be called proper redress either [-(

Greenock sheriff orders man to pay taxi driver compensation

https://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/new ... pensation/

A GREENOCK man who assaulted a taxi driver in an unprovoked attack as his granddaughter watched on has been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds in compensation.

James Orr repeatedly punched the man on the head and body while his vehicle was still in motion in Ladyburn Street on August 3 last year.

The 64-year-old taxi driver was on duty at the time and was carrying his adult granddaughter as a passenger.

He slowed his vehicle after observing a disturbance involving Orr when he turned on to Ladyburn Street at around 2:25am.

Orr, whose attention was then drawn to the taxi, ran towards the car and open the driver’s door.

He immediately began throwing punches at the man and later ran off from the scene.

Having been contacted via 999, police officers attended and photographed bruising to the driver’s forearm.

Orr admitted a charge of assault through lawyer Aidan Gallagher at Greenock Sheriff Court last month.

The 40-year-old returned to the dock for sentencing on Wednesday, with Mr Gallagher telling the court his client had been ‘highly intoxicated’ when he committed the offence.

He added: “That clearly had an adverse impact upon him, upon his judgement and his view of the situation that unfolded.”

The court heard Orr had, within a report prepared by a social worker in advance of his sentencing, expressed ‘remorse’ and ‘disgust’ in relation to his own conduct.

Mr Gallagher also acknowledged that Orr's behaviour was aggravated by the fact that the taxi was 'moving relatively slowly' at the time.

Sheriff Anthony McGeehan condemned the ‘unprovoked’ attack and warned Orr his actions could have seen him jailed.

He added: “This incident can only be described as serious and it must have been terrifying, not only to the driver but also his granddaughter who was a passenger in the car at the time.”

Orr was ordered to complete 140 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.

He will also be required to pay the victim a total of £750 in compensation.

That's about right for an assault under that charge; quite often, the amount is £ 200-ish at best.
