For a change this press piece carefully delineates the three different licences involved, but since two of them were revoked the headline and strapline should maybe have used the plural 'licences'.

But that's maybe because much of it is just a straight lift from the council minutes

Huntingdonshire private hire driver has licence revoked

https://www.huntspost.co.uk/news/258523 ... e-revoked/

A private hire driver has had their licence revoked after they failed to declare their speeding convictions to the council.

In November 2025, Huntingdonshire District Council's Licensing and Protection Sub-Committee met to discuss the case of the driver, who has remained anonymous.

The committee heard that the driver presented their vehicle for inspection in August 2025, when a significant defect was discovered and their licence was suspended.

The driver's private hire vehicle licence expired in the same month.

However, the driver continued to undertake a "significant number" of paid private hire vehicle trips, which were disclosed by his booking records.

When the driver was challenged, they denied fulfilling the bookings but were unable to show evidence that the bookings were sub-contracted to safe vehicles.

The committee were satisfied that the driver had fulfilled the bookings in a vehicle that was "not fit for purpose".

It then came to light that the driver had failed to disclose speeding convictions to the council, which is a requirement.

The committee was concerned that the driver was making uninsured trips in an unsafe vehicle, and that their actions had "placed the safety of the public in jeopardy".

The driver, who is an experienced driver and operator and has held licences issued by the council for several years, said that they acted "in a lapse of judgement".

Despite this, the committee decided that he is neither "fit or proper" to hold either a driver or operator's licence, and it was revoked with immediate effect.

So if he let the plate expire then maybe he'd more or less given up anyway, and he thought the writing was on the wall...

The minutes state that he didn't even attend, although he had submitted comments:

Quote:
Mr NR was not present and was not represented at the hearing, but he had
confirmed he was content for the hearing to proceed in his absence. Having
satisfied themselves as to the validity of the communication from Mr NR,
Sub-Committee decided to proceed with the hearing. Mr NR’s comments on the
case were reported to the Sub-Committee.

He must have pi**ed them off somehow, as they, quite rightly, had their big beady eyes on him.

The cynic in me still thinks he is doing work unlicensed.
