Some South Wales news from two years ago. Spot the deliberate mistake of Mr Jenkins in the first article.

HEADLINE: CABBIES START ASSOCIATION DRIVE

Cabbies in Rhondda Cynon Taf have been invited to join a newly set-up branch of the National Taxi Association. Organiser Alun Jenkins from Aberdare explained: 'The minimum requirement to join our association is to have a current permit to drive/own a hackney in RCT - naturally that is a black cab with a light on the top.

'We have recently joined the National Taxi Association which started back in 1957 and has grown to be of national importance within the taxi world with owners and drivers with a wealth of practical knowledge that can be accessed by our ordinary members.

'If you are from outside our area, and wish to join a taxi association we are part of a national association and we will try to help.'

HEADLINE: Rogue taxi operators exposed by TV probe

A Bbc Wales investigation into the taxi trade in Swansea has found unlicensed vehicles, uninsured drivers and illegal operators. Licensed taxi drivers last night told TV current affairs programme Week In Week Out that not enough is being done by the council to combat the problem.

Many fear it will take a serious incident to spur into action those who hold the power to crack down on the illegal trade.

However, Swansea Council - which is in charge of regulating more than 600 taxis - said it was satisfied that it was doing enough to combat the problem.

Licensed taxi drivers believe not enough is being done to combat the cowboys. Several told the programme how they regularly passed details of unlicensed drivers and vehicles to the council but felt little was being done.

''The way I see it, it is going to take a serious incident for the local authority and the police to sit up and take notice of what is actually going on,'' said Bob Hoyles, of the National Taxi Association.

Swansea Council has brought 16 prosecutions in the past year.

''I think any complaints that are made to the council, we would investigate,'' said council head of legal services Dave Daycock.

''Certainly, if the evidence that we have was of sufficient quality, we would certainly bring prosecutions.''
