Another abduction in the Kirkcaldy area. Allegedly.

But, unlike the previous two fake taxi abductions in the area, nothing in here to indicate whether or not they happened at or near a rank. No doubt the details will come out in time.

And another of Sussex's favourite secret squirrel appearances :-o

Man, 36, appears in court over Fife ‘fake taxi abduction’ and rape allegations

Kemal Kemal made no plea during a private appearance.

A 36-year-old man has appeared in court accused of abducting two women in Fife by pretending to be a taxi driver, a month after he allegedly raped a different woman at an address in Kirkcaldy.

Kemal Kemal is also accused of sexually assaulting one of the two women he is said to have coerced into a vehicle on April 5 this year.

He appeared in private at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to face a total of four charges.

Kemal, of Kirkcaldy, is accused of raping a woman to her injury at an address in Kirkcaldy in early March this year.

Early in April he is said to have abducted two women and pretended to them he was a taxi driver, coerced them to enter his vehicle and thereafter refused to stop or let them exit the vehicle.

The alleged abduction is said to have taken place on roads in the Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes areas and the A92.

Kemal is accused of sexually assaulting one of the women he is said to have abducted.

He faces a fourth charge of driving a car while over the legal alcohol limit on the same date.

The alleged offending this month is said to have been committed while Kemal was subject to an undertaking to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court later in April.

Kemal made no plea during the private hearing and was fully committed and remanded in custody.

Found this posted on a Facebook page called 'Breaking News & Crime in Edinburgh, The Lothians & Fife'.

Which looks like just a Facebook page as opposed to a traditional media source like the Courier above.

This was posted ten days ago, and the narrative looks legitimate enough, and consistent with the Courier's piece above. But the structure and phraseology (as I've highlighted) smacks of AI, and the kind of thing that might appear on the DM News taxi site.

And, I mean, the opening paragraph itself just doesn't read like the kind of thing the Courier would open with if reporting on the likes of this.

Not that that means it's incorrect, or whatever, but just saying...

Fake Taxi Horror in Fife: Quick-Thinking Friend Prevents Potential Night-Out Tragedy

https://www.facebook.com/Breakingnewsed ... 387800625/

A night out in Kirkcaldy took a frightening turn for two young women after they unknowingly entered a fake taxi, highlighting the serious risks facing people on nights out.

The pair had been enjoying their evening at O’Connell’s in Kirkcaldy when they got into what they believed to be a legitimate taxi at the end of the night. Instead of taking them to their intended destination in Kirkcaldy, the driver diverted the journey, heading to a secluded area behind a building in nearby Glenrothes.

Growing increasingly concerned, one of the women acted quickly and called the police.

Despite being instructed to stop several times, the driver allegedly refused, continuing to drive and declining to provide his name or vehicle registration details.

Police were able to track the call and locate the vehicle, bringing the situation under control.

The man has since been taken into custody and is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Authorities have launched a full investigation, with CID officers collecting evidence, including clothing and forensic samples, as they work to determine the driver’s intentions.

The incident serves as a stark warning about the importance of verifying taxis before getting in. Licensed taxis are required to display proper identification, including a visible badge and should display council license plate near to the registration number of the vehicle.

Passengers are urged to avoid entering any vehicle that cannot be clearly identified as legitimate.

The woman involved credited her friend’s quick thinking for preventing what could have been a far more serious outcome.

“This could have ended very differently,” she said. “People need to be careful. Always check your taxi—it might seem obvious, but in the moment it’s easy to assume you’re safe.”

The incident has sparked renewed concern over night-time safety, particularly for young people, and underscores the need for vigilance when travelling after dark.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact police Scotland on 101.

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.

O'Connell's is a fairly standard bar/club sort of place on Kirkcaldy High Street, although I'm not sure if there's a taxi rank close by.

But interesting that the charges in the more official first article say that he 'coerced' them into the vehicle :-o

It would have taken them around 15-20 minutes to drive up to Glenrothes (assuming they drove there directly) which is six or seven miles away. Half of that would have been driving out through Kirkcaldy, then half of that up a fast dual carriageway section to the outskirts of Kirkcaldy.

None of the narrative in the Facebook article is consistent with having been 'coerced' into the vehicle.

If they had been, they surely wouldn't have become increasingly concerned *during* the journey. Nor is that consistent with the woman's friend later 'quick thinking' and phoning the police.

Maybe it's just an AI 'hallucinatory' thing, or whatever. Or maybe 'coerced' in the charge statement above means something other than the way it's commonly used, ie using an element of force or threats to get them into the vehicle, or whatever :?

The advice thing right at the end there also seem inconsistent with 'coercion'.
