Worth recalling that many drivers who would be revoked down south would be suspended in Scotland for the unexpired portion of the badge's duration, to use the official wording. Keep meaning to look into that, but I think it's a procedural thing and related to the wording of the Scottish legislation etc.

Private hire driver charged with sexually assaulting passenger has licence suspended

Abdullah Yasin is facing two charges over the alleged incident in March and is due to appear in court in June

A private hire car driver in Glasgow has been suspended after being charged with sexual offences.

Police Scotland told the city’s licensing committee that Abdullah Yasin is facing two charges following an alleged incident in March.

It is alleged Mr Yasin, while working as a private hire driver, sexually assaulted a female by kissing her without consent and “making her hand touch his penis”.

A police officer told councillors that it is also alleged that Mr Yasin did “intentionally expose his genitals in a sexual manner” to a female.

The committee heard the driver has been charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal and is due to appear in court in June.

Police Scotland called for the suspension on the “grounds that carrying on of the activity to which the licence relates causes a serious threat to public order or public safety”.

Mr Yasin, who did not attend his licence hearing, had already been suspended for six weeks following the police complaint.

Councillors decided on Wednesday to suspend his licence – which runs until June 2028 – for the unexpired portion of its duration.

But here's a fundamental difference to what would happen in Fife, as far as I can work out.

In the above case I suspect he wouldn't be named in Fife, and the decision would be taken under delegated powers, and only later mentioned at committee. And councillors would effectively just be nodding dogs.

And there would be zero detail about what had actually happened (or alleged to have happened). This is a recent example from the Fife licensing minutes:

Fife Council licensing minutes wrote:
SUSPENSION OF TAXI / PRIVATE HIRE CAR DRIVERS LICENCE

The committee were advised that a decision had been taken by the Executive
Director, Finance and Corporate Services, using the powers given to them under
section 2 of the Council's List of Officer Powers 'Emergencies and Cases of
Urgency' in consultation with the Convener and Depute Convener of the
committee, to suspend a taxi/private hire car driver's licence with immediate effect
under paragraph 12 of Schedule 1 to the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.

The decision was taken as information had been received from Police Scotland
(Fife Division), which had to be considered prior to this meeting of the committee.

Decision

The committee noted that a taxi driver’s licence had been suspended with
immediate effect.

Same down here. Officers would revoke and then inform the committee at their next meeting. The driver wouldn't be named, and it would be for information only.
