Thought this was a PHD dealing drugs in Sussex after a quick look at the headline and strapline in this local media source. But on closer reading the dealer was actually just being driven around in the PHV.

But one of those where the driver must have surely smelt a rat?

Particularly when it's made to read like police just happened to notice what was going on, and then stopped the PHV? More likely to be based on intel rather than simply what was observed there and then, I'd guess :?

Anyway, the Sussex Police press release is below, as opposed to the media rehash before that.

A drug dealer who used a private hire taxi to supply cocaine to customers has been jailed.

Drug dealer sentenced after vehicle stopped in Yapton

A drug dealer who used a private hire taxi to supply cocaine to clients has been jailed.

Ergys Rexha was seen by officers exiting the vehicle in Yapton to meet a customer.

In less than a minute he was back inside the vehicle in the rear passenger seat being driven to another customer.

But he was stopped by officers from the Specialist Enforcement Unit and was searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

They initially found 13 vials of cocaine in a cigarette packet in his pocket.

Later, when searched in police custody, a further 12 vials were found concealed in Rexha’s underwear.

Following an investigation by Chichester and Arun CID, the 37-year-old was charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

At Lewes Crown Court on 13 April he admitted the charge, and was jailed for two years.

The court was told how a passenger engaged with a customer from a white Mercedes taxi at 7.30pm on 13 March this year.

Officers on duty witnessed the suspected drug deal, and then stopped the Mercedes nearby in Bittern Avenue, where Rexha, of no fixed address, was arrested.

The vehicle stop and arrest followed a week of action for County Lines Intensification Week. In West Sussex officers worked alongside partner agencies and forces to complete ten warrants, seize £12,000 in cash, 17 phones, 12 knives, and one vehicle. A total of 37 arrests were made, while 26 children and 20 vulnerable adults were safeguarded.

Speaking after the case Detective Inspector Jason Parry said: “We are continuing our work to disrupt the supply of drugs which cause so much harm across Arun District.

“This case demonstrates our determination to catch offenders and ensure they are prosecuted. We are pleased that Rexha is now serving a custodial sentence.

Chief Superintendent Imran Asghar said: “Our officers work all year round to disrupt the supply of drugs which cause so much harm in our communities, and to relentless target offenders who prey on vulnerable children and adults.

“County Lines is a type of drug dealing in which organised crime groups used phone lines to distribute and supply drugs.

“These groups exploit vulnerable and young people, grooming and coercing them as drug ‘runners’ or cuckooing vulnerable people, using their homes as a base for operations.

“The impact and harm of County Lines drug dealing is immense for the individuals being exploited and also considerable for our communities across West Sussex.”

I would say he is very very very lucky he wasn't also charged with supplying drugs.

An increasing number of taxi/PH drivers down here have been.
