Can't find the original source for this - it's not a council or police press release - but this makes it sound like something out of the ordinary as opposed to routine enforcement, whereas it all sounds a bit low-key, and typical of the usual Barnsley emphasis on cross-border cars.

But not the usual level of detail here :?

Rogue taxi drivers are being targeted by council enforcement officers in Barnsley.

A total of 23 private hire drivers were inspected during a day-time operation, amid fears that not everyone is following the rules.

Officers worked with South Yorkshire Police, focusing on drivers and vehicles that work predominately in the town centre.

They are also cracking down on private hire vehicles licensed by other authorities but work in Barnsley.

The report says officers are concerned with vehicle and driver non-compliance, and are enforcing national and local conditions accordingly.

The operation found one driver and vehicle licensed by Wakefield, and another by Wolverhampton.

One Barnsley taxi was suspended for failing to display the required vehicle signage, having two tyres below the legal limit and accident damage.

The driver also received a written warning for failing to complete his daily check book.

All other drivers and vehicles inspected were compliant.
