Post subject:  Bradford waiting time set to increase from £6 to £12 an hour

This is a pretty straight bat press rehash of a public notice, which is linked to at the bottom.

First obvious thing is that while the flagfall is going up 20%, it's pitifully low at present - it's going up from £2.50 to £3.00 :-o

But, perhaps unsurprisingly, there's no real flagfall distance in the sense that most of us are familiar with, and the meter starts cranking up almost immediately...

The soiling charge has certainly been hiked quite a lot, but it's only £50 now, and going up to £100.

Of course, to a large extent that's usually academic anyway, and won't happen very often, at least for day drivers.

More interesting maybe is the doubling of waiting time.

Which is something I don't really pay much attention to most of the time.

But it's currently just £6 per hour, and it's going up to £12?? #-o

That still seems very cheap by national standards :-o

HACKNEY Carriage fares in Bradford are set to rise significantly.

The new structure will see a 20% increase in fares for the shortest journeys in the city, with the minimum charge for distances not exceeding 96 yards rising to £3.

The same rise applies to night-time and bank holiday tariffs, with the £3 minimum fare now covering distances up to 88 yards.

Christmas and New Year will see a more substantial 50% increase, with the minimum fare rising to £4.50.

A new tariff is also being introduced for journeys involving five or more passengers, with a starting fare of £4.

Waiting time charges have doubled, with each completed 60 seconds now costing 20p.

The charge for soiling a taxi has also doubled to £100.

The council has announced these changes under Section 65 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.

People can object to the changes by writing to Steven Knighton, Regulatory and Compliance Manager, Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Services, Shearbridge Depot, Great Horton Road, Bradford, BD7 1PU, or by email to Taxi.testing@bradford.gov.uk.

Objections must be submitted within 14 days from the publication of the notice.

Meters will adjust to reflect these changes automatically.

This seems to be the current tariff card here.

https://www.bradford.gov.uk/media/5398/fare-cards.pdf

It simply says 'For Fouling Cab', so no long-winded definition there.

And also this definition, which attracts a charge of £1 :-o

Bradford tariff card wrote:
Contracts or purported contracts for Private Hire. When the hirer
arranges by radio telephone or otherwise with the proprietor or driver, prior
to the commencement of the hiring, for hire of the carriage to commence
from a stated place other than a taxi stand or booking office.

So currently cab drivers are earning less than half the national minimum wage whilst waiting. #-o
