This is quite brief, and is part of a court round-up piece in a local paper, so this is just the bit relating to the trade.

And not particularly interesting anyway. But he seems to have gotten off quite lightly - a few hundred quid and that's it??

(And the fact that he's reasonably old and was using a Tesla are maybe the only other interesting features...)

Isn't there usually an insurance angle to this as well? And I wonder if he had a PHD badge and operator's licence, and that's why there's no word of any prosecution in that regard?

Anyway, maybe if he does have other licences then this may affect them :?

Oldham court round up: Unlicenced private hire driver fined

The following cases involve people from Oldham or crimes committed in the borough which have been dealt with by the courts in the past fortnight.

An Oldham man has been made to pay hundreds of pounds after being caught using his car as a private hire vehicle without the licence to do so.

Between November 28 and December 2 last year, Ivan Georgiev operated a Tesla as a private hire vehicle in Warrington, Cheshire.

However, the 69-year-old did not have a section 48 licence, which is needed in order for a driver to use their car as a private hire vehicle.

On July 1 at Warrington Magistrates' Court, Georgiev, of Whitebank Road, Limeside, pleaded guilty to the offence and was ordered to pay £300 in court costs, a fine of £117 and a victim surcharge of £47, bringing his total costs to £464.

And maybe interesting that although the author of that Oldham Times piece has managed to avoid using the t-word, the photo illustrating the piece shows a row of ranking HCs :-o

Not sure where that's from, but it's a screengrab from Google Maps, so could well be in Warrington.

And, of course, it's likely that whoever wrote the piece didn't actually choose the photo to illustrate the webpage.

So his current address looks like Oldham, yet he 'operated' his Tesla in Warrington for five days. Which is 30 miles away :?

Usually yes.

Maybe he was offered a fixed penalty notice for the offence and took that up.

But more likely the council never caught him in the act of carrying punters, thus they would have no concrete evidence to show to a court.

You can't prosecute on a mere assumption.
