Came across this one via TaxiPoint :-o

And rather than issue press releases and the like, this conforms to the usual Liverpool licensing modus of publicising a lot of this via their Twitter account, complete with a fancy pants graphic.

Anyway, quite a lot of vehicles stopped, and looks like most of them had some problem or other. On the other hand, nothing to suggest anything particularly serious, in safety terms at least, and presumably no vehicles suspended.

Maybe the most interesting thing is the suspected cases of engaging the E tariff.

According to the tariff card (oddly, Google throws up the card hosted on the Wirral Council website - presumably included there as part of some kind of tariff review) the E tariff is the overnight one on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve into New Year's Day [-X

And no need to get pedantic about the fact that 'HCV' should in fact be the plural 'HCVs' [-(

But since it's a licensing thing, perhaps it should be 'HCDs' rather than 'HCVs' - it's a driver conduct thing rather than a vehicle issue. Unless, perhaps, the meter is faulty, and the driver didn't know about it :lol: :---)

I thought all meters were calendarized these days ??

Indeed, X-ray, and I'd forgotten about that when I posted earlier.

Although maybe they're not compulsory in Liverpool. We're not compulsory in Fife, because T2 is applicable to trips going outside Fife (don't ask :roll: ), so we need to be able to select T2 at any time.

Although I'm guessing that the vast majority of meters in Fife are calender-capable.

I'm sure mine isn't, though, and still has to be manually reprogrammed rather than just plugging the software in.

(So it's a good job I'm quite friendly with the Digitax agent, and he's a good bloke, so doesn't charge me extra, and he's quite cheap compared to most of them anyway. But I usually slip him an extra few quid...).

And the reason I know my meter isn't calender-capable is because said Digitax agent sold it to me for £10 about 20 years ago :-o

He's based in Dundee, and when the council there specified calender meters there were a few older-style meters surplus to requirements.

And I've still got one of them - £10 for a meter I've been using for 20 years was a steal :D

the "fancy pants graphic" suggests a driver suspected of engaging the e rate so presumably not.

Not having calendar-controlled meters is a recipe for fraud.

Simply amazed all councils don't ensure this.

Down here, the only way a tariff can be manually changed is if a multiseater gets a multiseater job.

And abuse of that is rife.
