Man who drove into oncoming traffic refused Glasgow private hire licence

A man who drove into oncoming traffic has been blocked from becoming a private hire driver in Glasgow.

The decision from the city's licensing committee comes after Police Scotland objected to Feyisal Mohammed's application.

Councillors were told Mr Mohammed had been fined a total of £600 and given six penalty points following two offences in 2024.

An officer said: "The applicant drove a vehicle in a careless manner into the incoming traffic and did cause a collision."

She added he had been driving without insurance at the time of the incident.

Mr Mohammed, who had applied for a three-year private hire car driver's licence, said he had learned from his mistake. He has been driving for the past two years without any other incidents, he told councillors.

Cllr Sean Ferguson, SNP, who was chairing the committee, said the council expects "very high standards" from drivers when it comes to public safety.

He added Mr Mohammed's offences were "very concerning".

The committee, which refused the application on Wednesday, also heard that South Lanarkshire Council had rejected a licence bid from Mr Mohammed.

Police Scotland said that application had been refused in February this year.
